About

Neighborhood Nomads is a journal that documents the enduring power of place. Writing and imagery featured here explores the tug of roots and the pull of wings, the opposing forces of home and away. The journal is focused on the strength of our neighborhoods and landscapes. The intent is to inspire readers to explore their hometowns as travelers would, rediscovering beauty in the places they know best, and to experience faraway destinations at a slower pace, taking time to understand them like a local.

[ The beginnings ]

Neighborhood Nomads launched as a travel blog in 2011 when author Kate Gallery decided to spend one year returning to each of the many cities and neighborhoods she once called home. Her blog later grew to include interviews with people deeply invested in the places they live, work and play. Neighborhood Nomads gradually evolved into a space for observing our cities and the pulse of the world’s hubs, for slowing down and savoring our neighborhoods as the core unit of our communities, and for considering how our homes and the spaces we inhabit provide insight into our identities and families.
